Personal computers.

Before IBM recast the pc from hobbyist’s device to workplace automated device in 1983 — followed by Apple’s people-friendly Apple personal computer a year later — a “minicomputer” was the dimensions of a washer and needed a particular air-conditioned room.  But the qualified specialists who managed the old mainframes already realized computer systems were cool: They could use them to try out activities, keep journal, and business information with buddies around the world, while still looking active.  Nowadays, thanks to the PC, we all look active.
